OCTOBER 6- “The 11th International Lion Dance Championship 2024 – MGM Cup” Concluded with Success

[October 6, Macau] With 21 lion dance troupes from 13 countries and regions participating this year, “The 11th International Lion Dance Championship 2024 – MGM Cup” was successfully concluded today, presenting 33 highly-entertaining competitions at the Barra Square in front of the world heritage site A-Ma Temple. After two days of battles, winners of the four contests including “Freestyle Lion Dance Championship”, “Women’s Traditional Lion Dance Championship”, “Youth Traditional Lion Dance Championship” and “Junior Traditional Lion Dance Championship” all sealed their triumph. This year, MGM live-streamed the event globally via MGM’s official Facebook page, the Facebook page and YouTube channel of long-shi.com, as well as 15 streaming platforms and has attracted nearly 3 million viewers both online and offline.

For the second consecutive year, MGM held this Championship at the Barra Square in front of A-Ma Temple, with the objective not only to showcase the lion dance culture at a world heritage site, but also to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of Macao SAR. The two-day lion dance competition attracted around 60,000 visits on-site. Additionally, MGM has also brought traditional craftsmanship into the Barra District, allowing residents and tourists to experience the appeal of lion dance culture. A series of lion dance-themed activities has been held from October 2 to 6 at Barra, featuring crossover performances by Foshan's renowned “Big Head Buddha” troupe and local stilt-walkers, as well as lion dance-themed workshops. MGM hopes to drive more residents and visitors to explore Barra’s profound history meanwhile leveraging Macau as a window to promote traditional Chinese culture and lion dance culture to the world.
