SEP 19 - MGM Invited Michelin Three-Star Chef Motokazu Nakamura to Showcase Kaiseki Artistry in Macau for the First Time

[September 19, Macau] To strengthen Macau's position as a UNESCO-designated “Creative City of Gastronomy”, MGM has invited the world’s only Michelin three-star chef with a doctorate, Chef Motokazu Nakamura from Japan, for an exclusive culinary exchange between September 13 and 15 in Macau for the first time. With the support from Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the “MGM and Motokazu Nakamura: The Art of Kaiseki” series included a seminar and a three-day-limited dining experience pop-up.

Chef Nakamura is the chef-owner and the sixth generation of the 180-year-old Isshi Souden Nakamura restaurant in Kyoto, Japan, with Michelin three-star recognitions for 14 consecutive years since 2011. As the only Michelin three-star chef with a doctorate, he enjoys a prestigious reputation in Japan’s culinary field. His time spent in Zen meditation at the Tenryu-ji Temple in Kyoto has deeply influenced his culinary philosophy, particularly his meticulous approach to the use of ingredients in Japanese cuisine.

During the “Seminar on the Jewel of Japanese Cuisine - Kaiseki Introduction” on September 13, Chef Nakamura shared his expertise at The Vista of MGM COTAI with over 180 representatives from local culinary industry and students from the city's universities. He shared his commitment to preserving his family's culinary heritage, as well as the philosophy and artistry behind Kaiseki cuisine.

Geoffrey Simmons, Vice President of Food and Beverage at MGM, said, “Kaiseki is more than just a meal; it is the intricate and harmonious blend of aesthetics, tradition, and innovation, reflecting the bounty of the season and the craftsmanship of the chef. Culinary art is an integral part of all cultures, and this event represents one of MGM’s many efforts to bridge cultures around the world through artistic initiatives.”

Distinguished guests who were invited to attend the sharing session are Hoi Io Meng, Acting Director of the MGTO; Kan Chou Pui, Head of the Research and Information Technology Division of the Consumer Council; Ma Io Meng, Representative of the Municipal Affairs Bureau; Jocelyn Wong, Chair of the Macau Hotel Association; Ernesto Ho, Vice President of the United Association of Food and Beverage Merchants of Macao; Hans Rasmussen, Director of the Division of Food and Beverage of Macao University of Tourism; and the executives from MGM.
In addition, during Chef Nakamura’s visit, he joined hands with MGM’s culinary team to hold a three-day-only “Kyoto Michelin 3-Starred Kaiseki” dining experience at Aji, which has attracted about 200 gourmands from near and far. The dishes were traditional Kyoto-style kaiseki, centered on seasonal ingredients and precise knifework, with every detail reflecting the Zen-inspired philosophy by Chef Nakamura.
