21 Lion Dance Troupes from Around the World Gather in Macau for a Grand Showdown!
Wherever there are Chinese communities, there are lion dances. “The 11th International Lion Dance Championship 2024 – MGM Cup” will kick off in October. Elite lion dance teams from 13 countries and regions will compete for the Champion on October 5 and 6 at the Barra Square. This prestigious international sports event in the lion dance field is co-organized by MGM and the Dragon & Lion Dances Federation of Asia, advised by the Chinese Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Association and coordinated by the Wushu General Association of Macau.
A total of 210 lion dance athletes from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, Japan, Italy, and Myanmar will compete for honors in four major categories: Freestyle Lion Dance (High Pole), Women's Traditional Lion Dance, Youth Traditional Lion Dance, and Junior Traditional Lion Dance. Spectators can enjoy highly entertaining and intense competitions at the heritage site in front of A-Ma Temple, while also experiencing the cultural fusion of lion dance from various regions. At A-Ma Temple, you can feel the blend of Chinese and foreign lion dance cultures.
