November 11 - CHAMPIONS ANNOUNCED FOR ‘MGM LION DANCE CHAMPIONSHIP 2018’

[Sunday, November 11] The “MGM Lion Dance Championship – Macau International Invitational 2018” came to conclusion in a glorious ceremony at MGM Theater at COTAI today. Shanghai Sanlin Xidi Loong Lion Team and Chinese Youth League Lion and Dragon Dance Australia took home the championship titles of the “Male Lion Dance Championship” and the “Female Traditional Lion Dance Championship” respectively, while MGM Golden Lion Troupe B from Macau and Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Dragon and Lion Dance Association – Hong Kuen Lee Yun Fook Lion Dance Team won in Macau’s first “Junior Lion Dance Performance Competition”.

The award presentation ceremony was kicked off with a performance by a troupe of Macau Special Olympics’ Lion Dance performers that have been taking part in an MGM-sponsored training program, spreading the message of diversity and inclusion. Guests of Honor were Ms. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of Macao Government Tourism Office; Ms. Dong Hui, Assistant of Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Ms. Ng Mei Kei, Head of Division of Pre-School and Primary Education of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau; Mr. Chan Weng Kit, President of Wushu General Association of Macau and Chairman of Dragon & Lion Dance Federation of Asia; Mr. Chao Chi Man, Honorary Chairman of the Organizing Committee of MGM Lion Dance Championship; and Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, who presented trophies to the winning teams to mark the successful conclusion of the two-day event.

In today’s “Male Lion Dance Championship”, Shanghai Sanlin Xidi Loong Lion Team bested the other 11 teams, while Dragon & Lion Dance Federation of Malaysia – Kwong Ngai Lion Dance and Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Dragon and Lion Dance Association – Hong Kuen Lee Yun Fook Lion Dance Team finished as the First and Second Runners-up respectively. In the “Female Traditional Lion Dance Championship”, Chinese Youth League Lion and Dragon Dance Australia won the Championship, while Associação de Artes Marciais e Educação Física dos Operários de Macau and Chinese Taipei Keelung Chang-Xing finished second and third, among ten elite lion dance troupes. In the new “Junior Lion Dance Performance Competition” which features seven teams, MGM Golden Lion Troupe B from Macau and Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Dragon and Lion Dance Association – Hong Kuen Lee Yun Fook Lion Dance Team won the Gold Trophies.
