Liu Jianhua worked together with twenty ceramic artists from Jingdezhen over a five-month period to create this giant installation, made from three thousand pieces of porcelain and weighing more than one ton, to present a diverse collection of Chinese character components and English letters.
Collected Letters almost looks like shattered sentences from old books has been ejected out and frozen as art. It begins as a dense gathering above that disperses below, drifting down like snow, abstracting once familiar things to draw the viewer into a specific setting to engage in a more open, multidimensional dialogue. This ancient medium with a thousand years of history takes on new vitality in Liu Jianhua's hands.
